Mechs and Minions; a Game of Stomping, Stumbling and Shooting

As the flow of lava slowly picks up speed, progressively heading faster and faster towards our heroic adventurers, thing were looking bleak....but we won. Actually it was pretty easy but I think we just got lucky towards the end. 

Mechs vs Minions is an incredible game. As with most licensed games, I avoided it like the plague initially, assuming that it would do well due to the League of Legends aspect but that would make the gameplay weak...but as reviews continued to pour in, it looked like it would be worth exploring. 

The game is basically Roborally, but less contest and more fun. Each game round consists of the players cooperating on picking various cards to add to their mechs programming line, followed by playing out the now set program with an aim to accomplish your objective. That programming line contains movement (in which you stomp on minions) and weapons (with which you stomp on minions). Hopefully when all is said and done you've actually ended up facing the right way and having wreaked appropriate havoc. But of course sometimes that darn mech just ends up spending its' whole turn banging against the wall and shooting some flamethrowers into empty air.

After your turn, minions spawn and activate, dealing damage to your mech in the form of cards that force you to do things you don't want to. Further escalating the difficulty of actually accomplishing a goal other than the occasional lucky kill. Throughout all this chaos you have an objective that ranges from scenario to scenario, which I'll avoid going into too much detail to avoid spoilers.

Suffice it to say that Mechs and Minions delivers an amazingly fun experience for 2 to 4 players. Each play is short, usually done with in an hour or less, and the minions killed are plentiful. While I enjoy Zombicide more as a light and fun beat em up game, Mechs delivers a different experience with more laughs and in a shorter play time.
